After this attack and the loss of Jack, we keep going… About 30 minutes later, we meet a group of paratroopers led by a major who commands us to follow them. Together we are around fifty men of the 101st Airborne and 2 guys of the 82nd AB. We move toward Sainte-Marie du Mont.
On the way we walk near a glider almost completely destroyed, I wanted to see if there were any survivors but all passengers were dead … Rest in peace … Before leaving, we took some equipments from the glider(weapons , ammunition and rations).
Finally, we arrive in a very small village that houses a battery of German guns.
On site, there is already a small group of the 502nd PIR. Fortunately, we are here because I don’t see how a dozen men could destroy a whole battery!
In addition to the men around guns, canoons are camouflaged by branches and protected by hedges, barbed wire but also mines and machine guns at back and sides.
First, we attack the men, to approach then the guns one by one. We make the gun unusable by inserting a grenade in the tube to blow up the canoon.
