The Piper Cub “Grasshopper”

The Piper Cub or Piper J-3 or is a light aircraft that was designed in the 1930′s. Built in thousands of copies, it stays even today an airplane with a conventional landing gear that is the most known and appreciated.

During World War II, the J-3 will be selected by the U.S. military as a training, observation and liaison aircraft.

Thousands will be built under the designation Piper L-4, recognized by their cabin window wider than civilian versions.

The L-4 Grasshoppers will get this nickname because of their tendency to bounce on landing.
